Micron Executive Tips Teamwork With Inotera on NAND Manufacturing

Taipei, April 27, 2011 (CENS)--Michael W. Sadler, Vice President of Corporate Development at Micron Technology Inc., recently said his company may extend its cooperation with Inotera Memory Inc. into NAND Flash production from DRAM manufacturing.

Sadler is concurrently a director at Inotera`s board, representing Micron. His statement is deemed as Micron`s public comment on cooperation with the Taiwanese DRAM maker over NAND Flash memory. Speculation on the deal has circulated for a while.

Micron`s business coverage includes NAND Flash, NOR Flash, and DRAM manufacturing. Sadler pointed out that without NAND Flash manufacturing, a DRAM manufacturer would be left struggling for survival.

Sadler said that NAND Flash has been the most popular among all memory chips thanks to robust market for tablets and smartphones and rush orders in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit northeastern Japan on March 11. He estimates NAND market would prosper throughout this year

Sadler noted that Micron`s NAND strategy for this year aims at boosting volume and upgrading technology. He said the company would not rule out the possibility of working with Inotera on NAND Flash production when the contract regulating an NAND Flash venture between Micron and Intel is allowed to transfer production technology to other companies. The joint venture is in Singapore.
