China is Major Market for Taiwan`s Networking/Communication Makers
Taipei, Aug. 5, 2009 (CENS)--Mainland China has become the most important market for Taiwanese networking/communication equipment makers thanks to the aggressive third-generation (3G) network constructions and telecom operators` upgrading purchases there, according to Tony Tsao, CEO and president of D-Link Corp.
Data released by Taiwan-based market-research firm Topology Research Institute (TRI) said that China Mobile, the largest wireless telecom operator in China, will complete construction of 108,000 wireless local area network (WLAN) hot spots in China by the end of this year and would soon begin launching wireless internet-access services at hotels and airports. In addition, the top-three telecom carriers plan to pour more than 300 billion renminbi (RMB, or Chinese yuan) into 3G infrastructure construction over the next three years. Such major projects will greatly raise demand for basic terminal equipment in China.
In addition, China Mobile and China Telecom are also planning to construct optical-fiber networks and will continuously release tenders for equipment purchases in the second half. Local networking/communication equipment suppliers estimated that China would post an annual demand for eight million to 10 million wireless and digital subscriber line (DSL) routers this year.
Tsao claimed that D-Link tapped into the Chinese market in 1994 and began supplying products to mainly China Mobile and China Telecom. In April this year, D-Link won a big-ticket order for 3G wireless internet cards. So far, D-Link has delivered 60,000 such cards to the Chinese customer.
D-Link estimated that revenues generated from sales (of 3G internet cards and 3G integrated routers) in China this year would reach US$8 million to US$10 million, though many strong international competitors are there. D-Link said it focuses on retail channels and works with major PC suppliers in China.
