Taipei, Aug. 17, 2009 (CENS)--The third procurement mission organized by the Association for Economic and Trade Exchanges Across Taiwan Strait (AETATS), under China`s Ministry of Commerce, this year will arrive in Taiwan on Wednesday (Aug. 19), with a procurement budget topping US$1.2 billion (NT$39.5 billion), mainly for machinery, chemicals, and auto parts.
The mission includes representatives from leading auto-parts companies in China, such as Fiat China, Peugeot China, the procurement arm of Haldex China, Chongqing Clutch Works, Zhuhai Renzhi Electronics, and Chongqing Qiutian Gear.
The three procurement missions are estimated to place orders with local suppliers amounting to 90% of the originally committed scale of US$4.2 billion by year end.
Wang Chih-kang, chairman of the Taiwanese External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) noted that TAITRA is glad to serve as an intermediary for the supply of Taiwan-made products with competitive edge in the world market, including LED (light emitting diode), photovoltaic, auto parts, bolt and nut, bicycle, exercise equipment, machine tool, medical equipment, and petrochemical products, to Chinese buyers.
Chen Demin, China`s minister of commerce, pointed out that in addition to the procurement missions to Taiwan, both sides of the Strait should form an even closer tie and set up common industrial standards, in order to tap the global market jointly.
