Taiwan`s Export Orders Grow Record 52% in December 2009

Taipei, Jan. 26, 2010 (CENS)--The value of export orders received by Taiwan`s manufacturers and traders in December 2009 reached US$31.725 billion for a sharp annual growth of US$10.94 billion or 52.63%, the highest rise ever recorded, according to the statistics released by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA).

December saw orders from the six member nations of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) reach US$3.144 billion for a whopping annual rise of 94.67%, even higher than the 92.59% recorded by China. Among the exports, the orders for information technology (IT) and telecommunication products boasted the highest annual growth of US$3.12 billion or 61.52%.

Huang Chi-shih, director of the Statistics Department of MOEA, indicated that among Taiwan`s export outlets China regained earliest its strength in July 2009 by bouncing back to the order level placed with Taiwan.

In the full year of 2009 Taiwan`s accumulated export order totaled US$322.4 billion, down by US$29.28 billion or 8.33% from a year earlier. Of which, orders for IT and telecom items took the lion`s share of US$79.32 billion for a minimal annual drop of 0.67%.

In the same year the export orders from China declined 2.41% from those of 2008, much lower than the 6.56%, 11.41% and 13.68% recorded respectively from Japan, the U.S., and Europe
