Taipei, Jan. 27, 2010 (CENS)--Taiwan Cement Corp. will start plans to build new cement plants in China as the Guangdong provincial government has announced shutting down old plants with five million metric tons in capacity by the end of this year, with total decommissioned capacity to total 30 million metric tons by 2012.
The Fujian provincial government has also announced closing of vertical kilns with production capacity of 17 million metric tons of cement by the end of this year.
Taiwan Cement chairman Leslie Koo said China`s central government will shut down vertical kilns which are seen as eco-hazardous, and has offered incentives to encourage such shutdowns.
Goldsun Development & Construction Corp., another major cement producer in Taiwan, said many vertical kilns in Fujian province are to be closed. As of the end of last year, only 48% of the cement plants in Fujian province are new in terms of production capacity.
With many old kilns to be closed, on September 30, 2009 China`s central government drew up a measure to stop establishing new cement plants to reduce redundant production.
