China Auto-Replacement Program to Benefit Taiwan`s Auto Parts Makers

Taipei, July 15, 2009 (CENS)--Taiwanese auto-parts makers are expected to benefit considerably from the China`s program subsidizing the replacement of old autos with new ones, which is estimated to create 490 billion yuan (NT$2.37 trillion) of business opportunities.

The program was announced jointly yesterday (July 14) by China`s 10 ministries, including the Ministry of Commerce and National Development and Reform Commission, calling for the provision of 3,000-6,000 yuan (NT$15,000-NT$30,000) subsidies for the auto replacement.

The news has heartened major Taiwanese auto-parts makers, such as Tong Yang and TYC Brothers, which have manufacturing operations in China, mainly for supplying to Chinese auto plants on an OE (original equipment) basis.

The program follows the subsidy program for home-appliances replacement, both of which will create multiple benefits, including the stimulation of endurable-goods consumption and the increase of employment via the development of recycling industry, according to Chen Demin, China`s minister of commerce.

"The numbers of discarded autos and home appliances are estimated at 2.7 million and 90 million units, respectively, this year and their entire replacement will create consumption demand topping 500 billion yuan (NT$2.42 trillion) in value," remarked Chen Demin.

The on-going home-appliances replacement program in nine major cities and provinces is expected to create 10 billion yuan (NT$48.5 billion) of demand and the auto replacement program is projected to create 490 billion of business opportunities.

The auto program is expected to greatly boost the businesses of Taiwanese auto-makers with large-scale manufacturing operations in China, many of which are deriving considerably amount profits from the Chinese market. Tong Yang, for instance, racked up NT$43 million of profit from its Chinese operation in the first five months this year.
